Pattern Design + Construction :
This pattern was inspired by my need for cute, handmade baby shower gifts that fit my short attention span. I wanted a baby blanket that was quick, easy, and free of color changes, while still being both functional and adorable. It’s the perfect way to have the best of both worlds!
Made with soft, bulky yarn, this crochet beginner baby blanket is worked in flat rows to form a rectangle. Measuring approximately 30 x 32 inches, it’s a versatile size for various uses. Adjust the size by increasing or decreasing the base chain stitches and yarn as needed.
Beginner Friendly
This blanket is primarily crocheted using the back loop only half double crochet stitch, making it ideal for beginners. The repetitive nature of this stitch, combined with multi-colored yarn, eliminates the need for color changes and keeps the focus on continuous crochet. Bulky yarn ensures a fast project turnaround—I even completed an entire blanket during a car ride to the beach!
The Yarn:
I selected Bernat Blanket yarn for its wide availability and color variety. It’s machine washable and dryable, making it ideal for baby blankets. Bernat offers both the Blanket Twist with intertwined color strands and the traditional Baby Blanket version with gradually changing colors. Both options work beautifully without needing color changes.
For this pattern, you’ll need approximately two 10.5 oz / 300 g, 220 yd skeins of super bulky weight yarn (6). Keep in mind that yarn usage may vary depending on tension and individual style.
I’ve used both colors:

- Salmon Sand Varg

- For rows 2-41, work in the back loops only:
