Pattern Design + Construction :
Easter is the perfect opportunity for fun, colorful crochet projects! These charming Crochet Easter Chicks can be used as playful toys, egg-hunt buddies, or even as photo props for little ones. Ideal for amigurumi beginners, this pattern is quick and features simple, basic stitches.
Each chick is made up of a body worked in the round, with the beak and wings crocheted separately and attached using a tapestry needle. A touch of stuffing and a cute, fuzzy head complete the look. The finished chick measures about 3 inches tall by 3 inches wide, but you can easily size up by using a larger hook and thicker yarn.
- Yarn: We’re using medium (4) worsted weight yarn for our crochet Easter chick design!
- Worsted weight yarn is a great choice for small amigurumi projects, offering affordability, versatility, and durability.
- It’s widely available at most local craft stores, making it a go-to option for various crochet projects.
- You can easily substitute with another worsted weight yarn, as long as the ounces per gram are similar.
- For this tutorial, we’re using the following yarn colors:

Crochet Chick Body Base:

- Round 3: INC, SC in the next stitch*. (18 stitches)
- Round 4: INC, SC in the next 2 stitches*. (24 stitches)
- Round 5: INC, SC in the next 3 stitches*. (30 stitches)
- Rounds 6-18: SC in each stitch. (30 stitches)
- Pause to add the face and embellishments.
To create the fuzz on top of the head, thread the tail from the magic circle through a tapestry needle. Pull the tail up from inside the body and out through the top of the magic circle. Trim the yarn to your desired length, then unravel the strands to achieve a fuzzy effect.
Attach the safety eyes between the 11th and 12th rows, leaving 7 stitches of space between them.
- Beak: Using a tapestry needle, stitch on the beak one row below and in between the eyes. To achieve a 3-D look, stitch only along the top of the beak (which will be the 4 base chain stitches of the beak).
- Stuffing: At this point, add your stuffing to create a nicely plump crochet Easter chick. Avoid overstuffing to prevent the stuffing from bulging through the stitches. You can always add more stuffing just before closing off.
- Round 19: DEC, SC in the next 3 stitches* (24 stitches)
- Round 20: DEC, SC in the next 2 stitches* (18 stitches)
- Round 21: DEC, SC in the next stitch* (12 stitches)
- Round 22: DEC 6 times (6 stitches)
- Final Steps: Chain 1, tie off with a medium tail. Using a tapestry needle and the tail, stitch up the remaining opening and weave in the end.
- Crochet Chick Wings:
- With the base yarn color of your choice,
- Round 1: In a magic circle, SC 6, pull tight (6 stitches)
- Round 2: INC, SC in the next stitch* (9 stitches)
- Round 3: INC, SC in the next 2 stitches* (12 stitches)
- Rounds 4-5: SC in each stitch (12 stitches)
- Slip stitch, chain 1, tie off with a long tail.
- Using a tapestry needle and the tail from the magic circle at the beginning of the wing, stitch the opening at the end of the wing closed (the wing will be flat).
- Using a tapestry needle and the long tail, attach the wings to the sides of the chick. Place one stitch through the body, then one stitch through the wing, and repeat.
- Tie off, weave in any tails, and trim any excess yarn.
