Hello there!
Can you feel the crisp morning air? My favorite season is just around the corner, and I’m excited for it!
As you know, I love quick and easy crochet projects, especially when preparing for market season. One-ball projects are also crucial, and this beanie (in adult size) uses just one ball of Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick. Be mindful of the colors, as not all have the same quantity, and we need the one with the most.
Here’s an important note: for the adult size, you’ll have just enough to complete one beanie, so keep an eye on your tension to make sure you have enough yarn.
If you’re familiar with my Paine Headband Pattern, you’re already acquainted with the stitch and are one step ahead in the game.
This stitch creates a stunning texture and offers a warm, cozy feel. The beanie has a snug fit, making it more suitable for women than men (sorry guys!).
A One-Ball Project
If you’re open to using more than one ball, you can crochet this beanie with a looser tension to make it slightly larger for a male. However, keep in mind that this stitch is extremely stretchy, so it’s a good idea to try it on before making any judgments.
For the smaller sizes, you don’t need to worry—you’ll have more than enough yarn to complete them.

- Special Stitches
- Herringbone single crochet: Single crochet, before continuing to the next stitch, insert your hook in the last loop of the stitch from the left, now you have 3 loops on your hook. Continue working on the next stitch as usual. Repeat for each stitch.
- Back loop only: You are inserting your hook in the back loop of the stitch only, as opposed to the normal way where you would insert your hook in both loops (front and back).
- Pattern
- Adult beanie
- Note: Pay attention to your tension throughout the project. You need a medium tension to have enough yarn to finish your beanie. A much looser tension will result in not having enough yarn. If you crochet very loosely, I highly recommend sizing down a crochet hook.
- Ch 32 and leave a small tail
- Row 1: hsc in the second ch from the hook, repeat all the way down to the last 3 chs, ss 3 (31). Ch 1 and turn.
- Row 2: ss 3 in the blo, then hsc all the way across to the end of the row. (31)
- Row 3: hsc all the way across to the last 3 sts, ss 3 (31). Ch 1 and turn.
- Alternate rows 2 and 3 until you have completed 26 rows.
- You should have ended at the bottom of your beanie (the opposite end as the ss).
- Fold your beanie (no wrong or right side yet). Now from the bottom, start ss all the way up to the top of your beanie, connecting both sides. You should have 31 ss.
- Once you get to the last st, make a small knot with the tail from the ch. Now with a whip stitch, pass your yarn through the loops on the top, pull tight to close and fasten off.
- Turn your hat right side out, attach a pompom and tag, and voilà! You are done!
